This post has no real update of my life, but I come with a purpose.
The Bucket List Project - My Concentration Portfolio
Bucket List [buhk-it list] -- A list of things to do before you die. Comes from the term "kicked the bucket".
What's on your bucket list? I want to know.
I have been trying to think of a sturdy, yet engaging concentration theme for my A.P. Studio Art portfolio. Ask any one of my friends and they can tell you that I've gone through so many different ideas. Furthermore, as I thought of each idea I would announce that I finally found the perfect one! Yet, after about a week, I'd hate the theme and I'd be thinking of a new one. Naturally, there is a deadline to this project and I really can't waste all my time thinking of a theme. I honestly started to panic; I wasn't sure I could come up with something.
Then it came to me. I'm sure of it this time, this one is perfect. The problem with all of my old themes were as follows: predictability - I had a plan and when I have a plan I become bored; self centered - they were all about me and what I wanted; no message - I had no idea what I was trying to do with my project or what message I was trying to tell. I realized I had to find an idea that was unpredictable, yet not chaotic, focused on something besides myself and told a message that I would be proud to share.
One night, a few days ago, I was talking with a friend from over seas. I'm not sure if it was something he said or if he just happened to be there when it hit me. A bucket list. We all have one. Is there a way that I can illustrate a bucket list? Every person in the world has weird, wacky, realistic, dull or impossible things they want to get done before they die. What if I asked everyone I knew what was on their bucket list? No, what if I asked everyone in the world... or at least attempted to? What would they say... what are they dreaming for? Of course, I figured I couldn't illustrate all the millions of dreams the world holds, so why not write them down and put them in a bucket?! Then draw from the bucket at random, once a week, and illustrate that dream?
Unpredictable? Check. I don't know what I'm creating until I pull the dream from the bucket.
Not self centered? Check. This project is about the world and their dreams, not mine.
A message? Check. Why not? Who says we can't create a list? Who says I can't accomplish that list?
The lists will be pulled from a bucket (ahaha, I'm so clever!) because I'm not a superior being and as such I cannot judge who's bucket lists are more worthy than others. We all want to accomplish our lists, so we should all get an equal chance of seeing our dreams created. Thus, pulling a list item from a bucket at random.
If you would like to be a part of this project please join The Bucket List Project group on Facebook. I would also love it if you told your friends about the project. I want word to reach every corner of the Earth, so I can have lists from all walks of life. If you do not have a Facebook, fret not my friends! Check my contact page and email me your list. Please include your name in the email as I want to contact you if one of your items is drawn from the bucket. However, I really would prefer the lists in FB form as they will be easier for me to keep track of. There are so many members in the group now that I won't be able to track you down even if I wanted to. Which I don't.
This project will continue until the end of April. Watch 'The Bucket List Project' page on this site for news on projects, to see what dreams are pulled and to read interesting stats about the project. Keep your eyes on this blog for videos, photos and other little snippets that will help me remember this journey.
What do you want to do before you die?
P.S. As of Feb 5 at 5:30 pm PST: 149 list items from 49 people have been thrown in the bucket.
P.S.S. I have an online portfolio now!
P.S.S. You guys are the stars of my concentration portfolio/final project. I'm forever grateful for every list that I receive and I truly appreciate your all of your dreams.
